Chicken Tikka Masala – Taste of the Himalayas
Came here for lunch on a Friday, and it was not crowded at all, though possibly because most people were gone on Spring Break already. Both dishes came with lentil soup and Basmati steamed rice – the soup was okay, but I wasn’t too crazy about the rice (too dry for my tastes). The Chicken Tandoori (chicken marinated in yogurt and spices, broiled in the Tandoor oven and served with sautéed onions) was a lunch special, so it was ~$8, while the Chicken Tikka Masala (broiled boneless cubes of chicken breast cooked in a special creamy sauce with herbs and spices) was ~$14, I think? The Tandoori came with a crispy tortilla that I didn’t try, as well as miscellaneous mushy peas and beans and whatnot that were on the salty side, but the chicken was good. The Tikka Masala plus Naan ($2.50) – wow! So delicious. So much flavor! It comes in a tiny bowl, but don’t be fooled! Mixing all that creamy sauce with Naan, plus amazingly tender and juicy chicken, makes you full! I was quite surprised.
Friendly staff, good service – constantly refilled water such that my large glass was never empty. Big place on the corner of the block. Prices are on the high end, unless you pick the lunch specials, which are more reasonable.
