French Toast & Bacon Cupcake – The Cupcake Shoppe
Cinnamon sugar cupcake frosted with a maple buttercream, sprinkled with candied bacon and maple syrup (Jumbo size, $3.25). Voted best cupcake in the Bay Area 2012 San Francisco Cupcake Challenge. Interesting mix got my attention. Definitely different, though a little too sweet.
Only Jumbo size is available at the shop, but the flavors change daily. I’ve also tried Mint Chip (chocolate cupcake with a chocolate mint ganache filling, topped with mint oreo buttercream), which was too sweet as well, though the ganache filling was delicious. What I liked the most was that both cupcakes were moist, and the cake portion was not minuscule compared to the amount of frosting added. They have a special where you can buy 4 and get 2 free, and also one-day-old cupcakes for a reduced price as well. They’re not too good with packing the cupcakes into boxes (they’ve wiped the frosting onto the box both times I’ve been here), but if you’ve got a major sweet tooth, this might be for you.
