With a name like Sugarland, this place sets high expectations for itself. My first thought at hearing the name is: HEAVEN.

Upon walking into this small shop (right off Franklin St), I was immediately grinning from cheek to cheek, as happy as a fat kid with cake. The colorful cupcakes, pies, and cakes are absolutely beautiful, but that’s not all they have. They have gelato on the other side of the counter. That’s right, more sweet, sugary goodness!! I was simply in disbelief. And indecisive.



I opted forĀ gelato. The gelato is presented in a fancy manner, swirled like the tops of Russian palaces. I sampled the Donatella, which is essentially chocolate and nutella combined. The sample spoon you use becomes the spoon for your tiny cup of gelato, which is about $4. Pricey, but then again, gelato is typically not the cheapest dessert option.

Staff is friendly. Designs are creative. For instance, one of the cupcakes called Campfire Crunch has Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal surrounding a large, toasted marshmallow on top of frosting – essentially a s’mores cupcake. Definitely haven’t seen anything like it.
