Top of the Hill aka TOPO

Bananas Foster French Toast – Top of the Hill (TOPO)

Cinnamon custard griddled Texas Toast with sliced bananas, hot buttered rum syrup, powdered sugar, and bacon, $8.99. The bacon is perfectly crisp, not soggy or burnt, and very lean! Didn’t care much for the French toast itself, nothing special. The bread is thinner than I would like (Texas toast is supposed to be thicker than the average slice of bread, so it was not what I expected), and the syrup was too much.

This place is a well-known, popular spot in Chapel Hill for food, drinks, and sports viewing. Also goes by the name TOPO. I expected a nice scenic view in the outdoor seating area, but unless you consider a view of Franklin Street and its shops magnificent, it’s really not much to see. No sunset over the mountains, no colorful trees lining the horizon, no breathtaking view of the ocean. Just a sight of industrialization. Staff is great though.
